hack*match was released as a free download for $1 for the first week, then $10 for the rest of the week. it was also given away for free at indie gala for a week and i’m happy to say that it was the shenzhen solitaire collection that won that prize.
i recently started working on a new version of shenzhen solitaire that is now available in the windows store. i said earlier that i liked the cheat to hide the symbols, but it turned out i made a bigger mistake: i hadn’t bothered removing the custom icons for the different game types, so the game still had icons for „invisible” cards. i’ve added some new rules to the game, as well as a secret new mode where you can play solitaire against the computer. in regular play, it’s impossible to tell who’s doing what (invisible cards or checking for winning lines). in the new mode, every hand is a battle of wits, with the computer trying to determine if you’re hiding your cards. when you win, the computer „self destructs” and you see all of its cards on the game board. its the ideal game for people who are too lazy to try to beat the computer, or just want to see how well you can do without cheating.
it was really exciting to see the solitaire collection on steam, but i also really enjoyed the sense of community around it and the feeling of „we’re all in this together” when we first started talking about the project. it was one of the first times i felt like we were really having a real impact on the world, and now that we’re putting the final touches on it and its almost out, i feel that way again.
