Greetings. I am well aware of the issues with software developers not being familiar with the photo editing and workflow (painting, etc) world. But I don’t understand some of the negative or critical reviews that are posted. The people using and reviewing the program should at least have a basic knowledge of how to use it. Shall I go as far as to say that if you don’t know rudimentary photo editing workflows, don’t use this program? I know at one time or other I used both Lightroom, Luminance and Photoshop, and the process may be somewhat different, but the workflow is still almost identical. Especially with the numerous options that can be changed from time to time. What I am looking for is a reason why someone would write a zero star rating, but not give a reason. Also, if critique is available, ie. add a comment to the average of the image, I always like to see what others are seeing due to the different hardware available and the different versions of the software. For example, we know that most monitor refresh rates are 240 to 300 Hz. A medium speed computer would lower the shutter speed and the frame rate, but good light control, lens selection and exposure compensation will almost always keep things right in the middle. So, when I take a photo, the shutter is probably open 3 to 5 ms and the frame rate is most likely 60. The camera is doing the rest. But, the computer has to process it. If your monitor is not set to 60 Hz, there is a problem. If your monitor is too slow, everything that is not slick looking will look like the photo is turned sideways. If your monitor is too fast, everything will appear smooth. Accordingly, I shoot RAW and have it stored along side the jpeg. I also have the original and a print to be able to tell what is wrong with the photo when so many are asking me to confirm they are seeing what I am. Even when using an uncalibrated monitor, a large percentage of photographs I take are underexposed. So, you are mixing apples and oranges. I am not saying the jpeg is the way to go, but it is very good. On the whole, I have been very happy with Photoshop. I will say I have tried most (but not all) of the programs that are available, but not to the extend of being pro so that may be why having worked for a living for 30 years, I’m not too critical.
